Entering his third season as the head coach for the Pinewood Prep football team, J.W. Myers has confidence in his coaching staff.

“We have an equal number of coaches on each side of the ball so we will be able to get our guys quality reps and quality attention,” Myers said. “They are a good group of guys and many of them have been either a head coach or coordinator at some level. The rest have played football at a high level so it’s a strong coaching core.”

Myers has been a coach at Pinewood for a total of six seasons and coached seven years at other schools. Thomas King, his right-hand man, returns as the offensive coordinator. Mike Latham also returns, but after coaching running backs and linebackers last season moves into the role of defensive coordinator.

“Mike Latham has been with program for a long time,” Myers said. “He has been our defensive coordinator before and he is on campus so now all our coordinators are on campus. We are excited about that.”

John McCall coached the team’s receiver’s last season, but will focus on running backs this year. Former Cathedral Academy head coach Shawn Fagan has joined the Panthers’ staff and will coach the receivers. Rounding out the Pinewood staff are J.R. Stark (defensive backs/receivers), Matthew Latham (safeties/running backs), Matt Powell (linemen) and Jonathan Caine (linemen/special teams).

Stark and Matthew Latham were both members of Pinewood’s state runner-up football team and Powell played for Coach John McKissick at Summerville.
