Top Contributor – Ahmed Diab

We are delighted to shine a spotlight on Ahmed Diab, a dedicated and passionate Physiopedia volunteer whose unwavering commitment and enthusiasm have made him an important contributor to Physiopedia content.  Ahmed is very active on social media and with the team on Slack, which helps to inspire others to contribute as well. Thank you, Ahmed, for your invaluable efforts towards making Physiopedia an excellent resource for rehabilitation professionals worldwide.

Your name: Ahmed Diab

Time active with Physiopedia:  I joined Physiopedia in December 2022. I have been with the team for 7 months.

Current role with Physiopedia: I work with the Content Team to create new pages and review existing pages.

Where did you go to university/college?  I hold a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Cairo University in Egypt.

Where do you work?  I practice physiotherapy in Egyptian Ministry of Health hospitals as well as my clinic.

Describe your role:  I am a clinician who specialises in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. I am also a content volunteer for Physiopedia; I enjoy reviewing and creating Physiopedia pages.

What is the most rewarding part of being a clinician or working with Physiopedia?  Helping people regain their health and independence. Furthermore, As a physiotherapist, you can work with people from all walks of life. This can be a great way to learn about different cultures and perspectives and to build relationships with your patients. Seeing your patients grow and develop over time can be very rewarding.

What are some of the more challenging aspects about your work?  Where I am, I can easily practise my profession. The physiotherapy culture is now far-reaching and widely accepted. I see people who have direct access to physiotherapy clinics and centres and consult me to see if they can undergo sessions for their conditions or not. However, there are issues I face regarding my patients’ status and mental health, so in my treatment plan, in addition to improving their physical state, I place a strong emphasis on mental health support for patients. In addition, sometimes work stress affects me negatively, driving me to exhaustion, pessimism, and depression—you can call it job burnout.

What are some of your professional passions?  I am passionate about using my skills and knowledge as a physiotherapist to help people improve their health and well-being. I am also passionate about learning about new technologies and how they can be used to improve healthcare. I am always looking for new ways to share my knowledge with my colleagues.

What are a few of your personal passions?  I enjoy activities that allow me to explore my creativity and learn about different cultures. I am particularly fond of reading, listening to music, going to the cinema and writing poetry. I also enjoy travelling to new places and visiting archaeological sites.

What would be your advice to a newly graduating physiotherapist?  Be enthusiastic about your work. If you are passionate about physiotherapy, it will show in your work. Your patients will appreciate your energy and excitement, and you will be more likely to find fulfilment in your career. Nurture your well-being. Physiotherapy can be a demanding profession. Make sure you are taking care of your physical and mental health so that you can stay healthy and content.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?  I see myself as a leader in the field of physiotherapy, making a significant contribution to the profession through my research, education, and clinical practice. I would like to develop new treatment techniques, share my knowledge with others, and work to improve the quality of care for patients.

What are the best things about being part of the Physiopedia team? This terrific platform is a great way to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in our field. I can learn from colleagues who have different experiences and perspectives, which helps me to grow as a professional and a person.

How has being a Physiopedia team member helped your professional development/career progression?  I can build relationships with colleagues from all over the world, which allows me to expand my professional network. This can benefit my career, opening up new opportunities for me.

What are your hopes and aspirations for Physiopedia?  I believe that Physiopedia is essential to the global rehabilitation community, and I hope that it will continue to be involved.

What is your favourite Plus course?  Stroke, ACL rehabilitation programme, Management of Traumatic Brain Injury, and Applied Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy programme. I am currently participating in the Nature Based Therapies for Healthcare Providers course presented by Ziya “Z” Altug.

Anything else you would like to share?  I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such a great team.
