What Are Pro Hormones?
Pro hormones are compounds that are precursors to hormones and can be converted into active hormones in the body. They are often used by bodybuilders and athletes to increase muscle mass, strength, and performance. When you take a pro hormone, it converts to anabolic hormones in the body. The resulting effects are seen through several pathways. But, generally, the most important effects are on the body’s Androgenic, Estrogenic, and Progestogenic receptors. Like anabolic steroids, pro hormones are androgen receptor agonists. A strong androgen receptor agonist will present effects related to increased testosterone.†

As well as a heightened risk of side effects related to high androgen levels.
These can include but are not limited to increased susceptibility to hair loss and acne.†
Pro hormones also affect your estrogenic and progestogenic receptors, which react similarly. Pro hormones that convert to estrogen and progesterone can support increased mass and strength.†
However, the catch is that considerable mass gains are often lost after the cycle is over. This is likely due to water retention more than anything else. This conversion also comes with its own set of risks and sides. Estrogenic side effects can include, but are not limited to:
- Increased water weight†

- And gynecomastia (swelling of the breast tissue in men)†
Pro hormones are often categorized as being androgenic, estrogenic, or even both. This is typically based on their primary method of action. All pro hormones will have an androgenic effect to some degree. But, each pro hormone can differ in its impact on other body systems.
Typically, strong androgens are useful for promoting strength gains. This is via the central nervous system (CNS) stimulation. Therefore, a strong androgen is often similar to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Furthermore, some will promote enhanced red blood cell production, which is why users usually experience larger pumps and vascularity.
What’s Changed?
As we mentioned before, the pro hormones available today differ from those available before the US Congress passed the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004. The new generation of pro hormones has a better delivery system and absorption rate. This means it’s not as taxing on your liver.
Liposomal Delivery System:
Liposomal technology has been used in the medical field as a carrier for drugs. But only now has it made its way into nutrition supplements. Liposomes have a hydrophobic core with a hydrophilic shell. This simultaneously protects the molecule from degradation while allowing it to be more soluble.
Cyclosome™ Delivery:
Cyclosome™ Technology is another liposomal delivery technology. This approach can help increase pro hormone solubility and vesicle stability. This delivery method controls the in vivo fate of hydrophobic compounds and avoids the burst release of pro hormones from the vesicle. What Is 1-Andro?
1-Andro is a legal pro hormone that gets converted to the active steroid 1-Testosterone. 1-Andro goes through a two-step conversion to reach the target hormone, 1-Test. 1-DHEA is a prohormone metabolized in the body into 1-testosterone (dihydroboldenone) and 1-androstenedione. These hormones are positional isomers of testosterone and androstenedione. This conversion to dihydroboldenone is where most of the muscle-building benefits stem from.
What To Expect From 1-Andro:
For starters, 1-Andro has research backing it up. Depending on the product you choose, you can expect different results. In general, 1-Andro is great for increasing lean muscle mass, strength, and aggression. These benefits make 1-Andro valuable for bulking and cutting programs.
For bulking, we would recommend a product like 1-Testosterone. Because it has the highest amount of mg per tablet, you’ll likely see the effects faster. For cutting, we would recommend 1-AD. The label states it has 75mg of 1-Andro; it actually has 75mg 1-Andro Decanoate, which yields 47 mg of 1-Andro. The extra ester chain allows the 1-Andro to break down slower. This helps control hormonal spikes.
Also, it’s important to note that these products contain other ingredients except 1-Andro from LG Science. 1-Testosterone, for example, has grapefruit extract, which can inhibit the breakdown of 1-Andro. 1-AD, however, contains laxogenin. So if you’re unsure if you want to hop into the pro hormone game, laxogenin is another great option. Because it is a plant steroid, laxogenin isn’t hormonal. Women can also choose to supplement it to improve strength, recovery, and joint pain. But in this formula, you may only notice joint support from laxogenin.
Chosen 1 from Blackstone Labs, on the other hand, is a blend. This blend contains both esters and unesterified 1-Andro/1-DHEA. So it’s like getting the benefits of both 1-Testosterone and 1-AD, but at a much lower dose.
1-Andro Side Effects:
Just like with any other pro hormone, there are side effects to consider and deal with. Some of the more typical side effects include potential acne, hair loss, prostate enlargement, cardiovascular problems (such as high blood pressure), increased liver and kidney values, and testicular atrophy, among other things. Some individuals also noted after high doses of 1-Andro, they experienced low libido and lethargy.
However, during the PCT, these side effects tend to disappear after the cycle. Because 1-Andro only affects androgenic receptors, the estrogenic side effects aren’t expected. Also, side effects like acne and hair loss have a higher potential if you are already susceptible to them.
Treating Side Effects:
We recommend taking an on-cycle support supplement like Gear Support. Products like this are going to help cut the potential for side effects. You would take it with your chosen pro hormones and stop during your PCT. You can try products like D-Aspartic Acid, Maca, Horny Goat Weed, or blends like Score! XXL for low libido.
We encourage you to take a multivitamin with B Vitamins for your skin and hair care. You can also consider Fish Oil, Omega 3, or NAC, which benefits your whole body, hair, and skin. How To Cycle 1-Andro:
1- Andro can be used for up to 8 weeks with a 4-week PCT. Each bottle typically contains enough for a 4-week cycle. So, for an 8-week cycle, you will need to purchase a second bottle.

What Is 4-Andro?
4-Andro is similar to 1-Andro, in that they both go through a two-step conversion to become the target hormone. In 4-Andro’s case, that means converting to testosterone. Where 4-DHEA initially converts to 4-androstenediol (4-adiol) and then testosterone.
What To Expect From 4-Andro:
4-Andro is considered more of a ‘wet gainer.’ Because it converts to testosterone, there is a chance of estrogen conversion. With products like this, that means there is going to be water retention. With that comes larger muscle mass gains and strength gains.
Due to the water retention, we would recommend 4-Andro for bulking. However, it can be, and often is, used in stacks. Like with 1-Andro, different products and different milligrams can have different effects. Also, like 1-Andro, the brands follow the same trend with the product formulas. Blackstone’s Brutal 4ce is a blend of 4-Andro, Hi-Tech’s Androdiol has laxogenin, and LG’s 4 Andro is just 4-Andro.
What makes 4-Andro so different is that it converts to testosterone, the hormone, not another precursor. With that, gains come faster, recovery is faster, and some of the side effects from 1-Andro are avoided. Cycling with 4-Andro increases libido and doesn’t provide lethargy. Instead, you can expect more of that Alpha-Male ecstasy. If you are looking to increase lean muscle mass, sex drive, and energy, then 4-Andro is for you.
Andro Side Effects:
Now, because there is a chance for estrogen conversion, you have the risk of those side effects. These include increased water weight, susceptibility to fat gain, and gynecomastia. This is in addition to some of the more common side effects of pro hormones usage: potential acne, hair loss, cardiovascular problems (such as high blood pressure), and aggression. However, 4-Andro is not methylated, so you don’t have to be concerned with liver toxicity.
Treating Side Effects:
To avoid estrogen conversion and the risks it comes with, stack an aromatase inhibitor (estrogen blocker) in your cycle. You can also take it after during your PCT. When taken during a cycle, they can limit estrogen conversion. Taken after a cycle, they help prevent rebound gyno.
For the other side effects, you can follow the same protocol as 1-Andro. NAC, Fish Oil, Multivitamins, and OTC acne cleansers. Because the 4-Andro is not methylated, you do not need to take on cycle support. However, if you still feel concerned, you can take NAC or Milk Thistle.
How To Cycle 4-Andro:
4-Andro can be used for up to 8 weeks with a 4-week PCT. For beginners, you may want to opt for a shorter cycle to see how your body responds to the pro hormones. This can be 4 to 6 weeks on the pro hormones and a 4-week PCT.

What Is 19-Nor-DHEA?
19-Nor-DHEA, unlike the other compounds we’ve discussed, is more of a pre-pro hormone. Through a two-step conversion, 19-Nor-DHEA will ultimately convert to Nandrolone (Deca).
What To Expect From 19-Nor-DHEA:
Unlike the previous compounds, there isn’t as much research to back up the benefits. However, users do claim to see strength gains and lean muscle mass gains. As always, results will vary. But we do recommend this pro hormone for people who are more susceptible to side effects. Nandrolone, by nature, isn’t as strong as testosterone. So, for more experienced pro hormone users, you may not prefer this compound.
19-Nor-DHEA is the best choice for those looking to increase muscle growth and strength while also accelerating fat loss. It has, however, earned a reputation for taking a long time to “kick in” and for suppressing natural testosterone.
We would recommend 19- Nor-DHEA for people looking to increase strength. But, if your goal is more physique-oriented, it could work well in a cutting stack as well. Keep in mind that Blackstone Lab’s Abnormal product features a blend, and Hi-Tech’s product, Deca-Durabolin, is just 19- Nor-DHEA.
19-Nor-DHEA Side Effects:
As we mentioned before, Nandrolone isn’t as strong as testosterone, so this means there’s a lower risk for side effects. Of the potential side effects, water retention is the most probable. Users have noted more water retention from 19- Nor-DHEA than 4-Andro. Another common side effect was low libido.
Treating Side Effects:
You could tackle both of these sides by taking an estrogen blocker during your cycle. But, for more libido support, you can try D-Aspartic Acid, Maca, Horn Goat Weed, or blends like Stamina Rx. And as always, a PCT will need to follow your cycle.
Again, there isn’t as much research on this compound. So if you’re experiencing other common side effects (i.e., acne), you can refer to the other compounds for ways to control them. You don’t need to take on-cycle support, but again, for extra consciousness, you can take NAC or Milk Thistle.
How To Cycle 19-Nor-DHEA:
19- Nor-DHEA can be used for up to 6 weeks (due to it suppressing natural testosterone) with a 4-week PCT. Again, if you’re new to pro hormones, you may want to opt for a shorter cycle to test the waters.

What Is 1,4-Andro?
Like all the other products above, 1,4 AD is going to go through a two-step conversion to get to the target hormone. In Equibolin’s case, the starting compound is 3b-Hydroxy-1,4-Androstadien-17-one Undecanoate (1,4 DHEA). From 1,4 DHEA, the compound will convert to 1,4 Andro, then to Boldenone. Boldenone is another compound similar to testosterone but differs by an extra double bond. This extra bond decreases its affinity (likelihood) of binding to enzymes that will ultimately convert it to estrogen.
What To Expect From 1,4-Andro:
Boldenone is known to significantly increase appetite. For this reason alone, we recommend Equibolin for bulking. In addition to the increase in appetite, you could expect an increase in muscle mass and strength.
1,4 Andro is an ideal option for those looking to increase mass without the degree of water retention often seen with 4-AD. Because 1,4 Andro is highly anabolic, there is a low conversion rate to estrogen, though it is there. This estrogen is enough to ensure your cycle is relatively bloat-free while still receiving some of the benefits associated with estrogenic conversion. Unlike with 4-AD, 1,4 Andro effects take longer (2-3 weeks) to show.
1,4-Andro Side Effects:
Because 1,4 Andro is highly anabolic, the risk of developing side effects is low. However, we would recommend Equibolin for more experienced users of pro hormones.
Treating Side Effects:
On-cycle support is not needed because Equibolin is not methylated, but if you want to play on the safe side, you can take NAC, Milk Thistle, or actual on-cycle support. The estrogen conversion is there, so if you wanted to take an estrogen blocker, that would help avoid any potential side effects.
How To Cycle 1,4-Andro:
You should start seeing results in 3-4 weeks of supplementation, and you can take this product for up to 8 weeks with a 4-week PCT.

What Is Epi-Andro?
Epi-Andro was first discovered in the early ’30s. It isn’t the most potent androgenic compound, but it is a metabolite of DHEA.
What To Expect From Epi-Andro:
Epi-Andro is a popular cutting pro hormone. With this, you can expect dry, lean muscle gains and also an increase in vascularity and sex drive. Compared to other pro hormones available, Epi-Andro is milder. But, there are some acute stimulant effects, so if you wanted to take your dose as a ‘pre workout’, you can.
Currently, the only product we carry with only Epi-Andro is Dymethazine. The first ingredient in Epi-Andro 50 is Epicatechin. This is not a pro hormone, although it is often featured in formulas designed for muscle growth.
Epicatechin is found in foods like green tea and dark chocolate. What it essentially does is inhibit Myostatin production. Myostatin is a type of protein called myokine, which limits our level of muscle growth. By inhibiting this protein, we help promote muscle growth.
Mesotrope from Dragon Pharma features more than double the dose in its pro hormone blend of Epi-Andro, but it is a blend. It also features:
- Dehydroepiandrosterone
- Mucuna Pruriens
- 3AD Dehydroandrosterol
- Black Pepper Extract
Lastly, we have our newest pro-hormone addition, Winstrol. Winstrol contains a 50mg proprietary blend, which features:
- 3 Beta-hydroxy-5alpha-androstan-17-one
- 25R-Spirostan-22a-0-3b-5a-6b-triol (Super Laxogenin)
- Δ5-Androstene-3b-acetoxy-7,17-dione
Because all of these ingredients are featured in the blend, we can’t determine the exact amount of Epi-Andro.
Epi-Andro Side Effects:
Fortunately, epiandrosterone doesn’t aromatize with estrogen. So, epiandrosterone doesn’t cause many estrogen-related side effects other compounds can cause. However, some issues may present during your cycle.
There may be an overproduction of DHT. This can cause your hair to become brittle and fried. This is particularly true if you are predisposed to hair problems or if you are getting male pattern baldness. There also is a potential for joint problems or discomfort with Epi-Andro.
Treating Side Effects:
On-cycle support is not needed for Epi-Andro, but if you want to play on the safe side, you can take NAC, Milk Thistle, or actual on-cycle support it wouldn’t hurt your muscle growth. Because there isn’t a conversion to estrogen, you won’t have to deal with these side effects. However, for issues like joint pain, you can consider taking a joint supplement like Osteo Bi Flex.
How To Cycle Epi-Andro:
It’s generally recommended to use Epi-Andro for no longer than six weeks per cycle. That said, aside from the acute effects, it can take a while for the effects to build up in the body, and you might not notice anything by just using it for a couple of weeks. Follow up your cycle with a 4-week PCT.

What Are HydroxyProgestins?
HydroxyProgestins are the newest class of pro hormones. They exhibit effects like 1-Testosterone or Boldenone, which are for muscle growth.
What To Expect From HydroxyProgestins:
Unlike DHEA pro hormones, which work with 3bHSD or 17bHSD, progestins use an enzyme called 17,20 Lyase, which cleaves the 17-position side chain into a keto group. Then, into a hydroxyl, which is the active steroid.
(chemical name: 17beta-{1-Ketoethyl}-androstane-3-one, 17a-ol)
5aOHP is an anabolic progestin that converts to stanolone or DHT.
It appears that progestin-based hormones may act as natural myostatin inhibitors. While also adding to our natural androgen levels. Lastly, it may also increase transcription via increased messenger RNA activity.
This causes 5aOHP to act like Winstrol. Because it helps achieve a lean look and adds mass without aggression. But, there is one major difference between Winstrol and 5aOHP. The latter will not cause any hair loss that is commonly associated with the use of Winstrol.
(chemical name: 17beta-{1-Ketoethyl}-androsta-1, 4-diene-3-one, 17a-ol)
1,4-OHP is a precursor to boldenone. Like Equibolin, this particular pro hormone will increase appetite and enhance recovery. Due to the appetite increase, 1,4-OHP is often used in a bulking stack. Where it will help build lean mass without adding significant water weight. This pro hormone is highly anabolic and mildly androgenic, which may contribute to an increase in vascularity. Besides this, it is also easy on the joints.
HydroxyProgestin Side Effects:
As it does not convert to estrogen or progesterone, side effects related to those should not be an issue. Taking this product with something to support healthy liver function would be a good idea.
Treating Side Effects:
To help support liver function, you can take a product like Liver RX or Organ Shield during or after your cycle. For the other side effects, you can take NAC, Fish Oil, Multivitamins, and OTC acne cleansers.
How To Cycle HydroxyProgestin:
A good dosage would be 100-200 milligrams (mg) per day, split into two separate doses. Many users agree that this compound is better suited to short cycles of 3-4 weeks.

What Is DHEA?
This is a hormone that our body naturally produces from the adrenal glands. Which helps our bodies produce testosterone and estrogen.
What To Expect From DHEA:
That’s right. DHEA can boost both testosterone and estrogen. Because of this, it’s used medicinally often and has some research behind it. DHEA is used as an anti-aging therapy.
Okay, so why include it in a pro hormone if it’s used for anti-aging?
Well, for starters, DHEA production is estimated to decrease by 80% throughout adulthood (as young as 30). So, by taking DHEA, by itself or in a pro hormone, you increase your body’s natural testosterone (and estrogen level). Generally, people gravitate towards a DHEA product (not prohormone) to aid in naturally boosting endogenous testosterone. This includes both men and women, primarily menopausal women. However, DHEA is a family of hormones (like most hormones).
So, in prohormones, isomers of DHEA are isolated to promote a specific result. This is where common isomers like 1-DHEA and 4-DHEA come from.
DHEA Side Effects:
There may be some minor side effects with DHEA supplementation. This can include greasy skin, acne, and increased hair growth in the armpits and pubic areas.
Treating Side Effects:
Because it is more of a natural testosterone booster/anti-aging product, you won’t need to take on-cycle support. In a sense, this is your on-cycle support. We recommend consulting your physician if you are taking DHEA for medicinal purposes and experiencing side effects.
How To Cycle DHEA:
As for cycles, not many studies indicate if DHEA will affect younger populations. Instead, it is often recommended daily for older adults at around 25-50mg.

What Is 3AD?
3AD is not a metabolite of DHT. Instead, it seems to be biosynthesized for DHEA.
What To Expect From 3AD:
Because the pathway 3AD is synthesized, it is unlikely to get the estrogenic effects/side effects. While this compound may be beneficial for increasing strength and leaning out, it could be used in a bulk or cut stack.
For bulking, it is recommended to be stacked with DHEA, Androsterone, Epiandrosterone, or Arachidonic Acid.
For cutting, it is recommended to be stacked with Epiandrosterone Acetate, Androsterone Acetate, or Arimistane.
3AD Side Effects:
Side effects could include acne and joint dryness (especially for extended cycles).
Treating Side Effects:
We would recommend following the protocols set for the other compounds in regard to acne and supplementing with a joint supplement for stiffness.
How To Cycle 3AD:
The dosage range is between 25 and 60mg; it depends on your individual weight and goals. The cycle length can safely range from 6-12 weeks. 3AD does not require on-cycle support supplements; however, if stacked with other hormones, it is recommended that a cycle support product be taken. Cycles that exceed 12 weeks should have at least a 6-week break between cycles.
With any pro hormone you decide to supplement with, you’re going to have to take a PCT. Keep in mind your testosterone and estrogen levels are a ratio; if one goes up, the other will, too. However, this is not a perfect relationship and doesn’t yield the same percentage of effect. So, when your cycle ends, you’re left with a surplus of estrogen. This is why it’s important to take a PCT.
When you come off cycle, your natural testosterone levels are extremely low, but your estrogen levels are high, comparatively. When you begin your PCT, you’re helping your body increase that natural testosterone level. So, taking products like estrogen blockers post-cycle helps to ensure that natural testosterone levels are restored. Ignoring this puts you at risk of losing the gains you made during your cycle. As a result, you can gain fat, experience testicular atrophy, be lethargic, etc.

What to look for in a PCT:

Again, for dosing, we would recommend sticking with the bottle directions. But make sure to separate your doses. If the bottle states to take 2-4 tablets a day, you can take 1-2 in the morning and 1-2 tablets in the evening, usually preferred with food. If you prefer a product with all the pro hormones already in each tablet, an intermediate pro hormone user could also benefit from the abovementioned products.
