Rome Health psychiatrist to address depression, mental health at Monday presentation

by admin

ROME — On World Mental Health Day, Rome Health psychiatrist Dr. Marcellus Cephas will share his insights on the impact of the pandemic on mental health during a special health presentation at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, in the Rome Health classroom, 1500 N. James St.

Dr. Cephas will address depression and mental health today as we bounce back from COVID-19. Dr. Cephas is the medical director of Rome Health’s Senior Behavioral Health Unit (SBHU), which provides inpatient care for adults ages 55 and older who are suffering from acute symptoms associated with a major mental health illness, and the Community Recovery Center, which provides outpatient treatment for adolescents and adults with substance use disorders.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global crisis for mental health, fueling short- and long-term stresses and undermining the mental health of millions of people young and old. Estimates put the rise in both anxiety and depressive disorders at more than 25% during the first year of the pandemic. World Mental Health Day 2022 provides an opportunity to re-kindle efforts to protect and improve mental health.

The presentation is free. Advance registration is not required. Masks are required to attend. Enter through the Emergency Department entrance to be screened before the event. For more information, call 315-338-7171.
