Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez on Wednesday urged the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to allow the national team to use the Rizal Memorial Stadium and Philippine Sports Complex for training activities in preparation for the upcoming 32nd SEA Games in 2023.

Gomez, in House Resolution 202 said rigorous training under the most optimal conditions must be undertaken by athletes who will be representing the country in the upcoming 32nd SEA Games for them to realize their full potential and best performance.

The SEAG will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from May 5 to 17, 2023.

Gomez noted that all sports training activities were prohibited by the government at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila City and the Ultra Sports Complex in Pasig City were also temporarily converted into quarantine facilities for individuals who contracted COVID-19.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered the country’s way of life by prohibiting certain activities, which included halting and limiting the conduct of group trainings of Filipino athletes, whether collegiate, amateur or professional,” the solon added.
